Openmade Consulting, a specialized DB consulting company, participated in the 'EDB Postgres AI Day Seoul 2025' conference to announce its automated solution, 'OpenPOP OTO,' which supports the migration of databases (DB) from Oracle to EDB (EnterpriseDB). The presentation focused on methods to enhance the efficiency of complex SQL tasks that arise during the Oracle DB to open-source DB migration process.

OpenPOP OTO: Revolutionizing SQL Migration Projects

Openmade Consulting's Director Park Min-kyung emphasized in the presentation that OpenPOP OTO can drastically reduce project duration and cost by automating the entire process of SQL inspection, conversion, and verification.

OTO offers the following key features:

• Automated SQL Conversion and Error Checking: OTO automatically converts SQL used in an existing Oracle DB to ANSI standard SQL for the EDB environment, boasting a high success rate of 70% to 90%. It automatically checks for execution errors during the conversion and attempts to re-convert any problematic SQL.

• Execution Result and Performance Comparison Verification: OTO automatically verifies that the data results (record count/values) are identical before and after the migration. It also compares SQL execution performance between the Oracle DB and EDB environments to identify any performance degradation.

• Optimal Index Guide: The solution provides a powerful feature that analyzes the access path of all SQL queries to suggest the most optimal indexes for each table.

• Convenience Features: It provides various convenience features, such as batch-changing large amounts of SQL statements and providing the source filename and line number of the verified SQL, which makes it easy to apply to the application.

Maximizing Project Efficiency and Cost Reduction

The automation capabilities of OTO significantly improve the efficiency of DB migration projects. Director Park Min-kyung explained that while it would take a person a great deal of time and effort to manually verify 10,000 SQL queries, OTO can complete the task in just a few dozen minutes. This leads to reduced project duration and minimized labor input, which in turn reduces costs. Furthermore, by minimizing human intervention through automated verification, the solution provides objective and reliable information.

Future Plans

Openmade Consulting is developing an 'AI-based SQL tuning automation' feature that combines its accumulated SQL tuning expertise with AI technology, with a target release date of the second half of this year. Openmade Consulting plans to continue providing optimal solutions to help customers maintain their DB environments at their best through ongoing technology development.
